This course is open to all Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s entrants and is an exiting opportunity to learn Bushcraft skills in a secluded Ancient Woodland environment. The timetable of activities has been designed to provide an initial introduction to Bushcraft and primitive living in Lowland Deciduous woodland. The course content will vary due to the seasons but will contain sessions on, the camp craft and cooking part of the course is where our instructors guide the group in how to prepare their food in a variety of ways using fire. As part of the residential we will also be spending a little time working in the woods to promote its Biodiversity and habitat. During your stay with us you will sleep either in your own tent or under Tarps, which can be provided for a more immersive experience. The course will contain the following subjects but will be affected by the season.
- Safe knife use and spoon carving.
- How to start a fire by various methods and how to maintain it.
- Preparation of safe water.
- Plant and Tree identification and the use of the plants and trees we introduce you to.
- We look at Shelters both Natural and man made and their pros and cons.
- Cordage from various materials.
- Tracking and animal sign.
- The camp craft and cooking.
- Introduction to Woodland management for Biodiversity.
